Mougins, Cannes. The south eastern, Mediterranean town which is wild, and wonderful!

Built on a hill, with astonishing views, is one of the south of France’s most renowned artist villages, having been the home to many famous people through the years such as Pablo Picasso, Yves Saint Laurent, Winston Churchill, Christian Dior, it has an air of luxury and natural beauty which you just shouldn’t miss! This article has been written in order to tempt you to go even more…

The town itself is incredibly traditional, dating back to pre-roman times, meaning small side streets mainly populate the village. We encourage you to explore these and get lost within the hub of the stone buildings. The traditional architecture is truly like no other, silhouetted by picturesque French landscape! Whilst loosing ourselves around the winding paths, almost every house was opened to display a selection of art made by the artist that lives within. Seeing the different styles was something that we found refreshing, and inspiring as creative minds ourselves.

Peppered within its cute and quiet streets are sculptures from different artists that inhabit the town of Mougins. Tomek Kawiak, one of the artist to make these fashionable sculptures, showcased his piece which was simply featuring jeans, each varying in style, from short to long, flared to skinny. Some were even given some extra design like sewn on stars for example! Alongside this was also work by an artist named Fredrick Lanovsky, a French sculptor born in Cannes. His sculptures were of fictional characters wearing high end clothing such as one female character holding a bundle of shopping bags with brands such as Chanel and Gucci, or a male figure casually pouring a glass of Moet champagne. The sculptures are fun, and bring a smile to one’s face, partly because of the bright popping colours, but also because you can see a piece of yourself in many of his pieces. More of his work could be found in his exhibition in the town hall, each half way through a variety of activities. An added bonus… you can walk in for free!

After walking round the galleries, you may have worked up an appetite. Well, in Mougins parallel to the array of art, is also a grandeur of restaurants, each with a wide selection, so you won’t be going hungry! From simple home style cooking, to three Michelin star chefs such as Roger Verge, who likes to display expensive art within his restaurants. We chose to eat in one of the more affordable places, however the food was still superb!

As we left Mougins we gazed over the jaw dropping views, its perfect lighting was a great opportunity for everyone to capture a colourful picture for their gram, and yes, we did join in! The sun was setting behind this rather grandeur landscape, shining in from behind a large copper sculpture of Pablo Picasso, for us it was something quite magical and a wonderful way to end our evening in the beautiful setting of Mougins!

Here are a handful of photos showing our trip to Mougins:
